The 10 inch tablet market is pretty vast now, and we already have seen some really potent entires in the 10” market. But now the new and the hottest segment of the tablet market is the 7 to 9 inch tablet market, and already there have been some significant entries in the market. The latest entrant in this segment is Toshiba, and although the maker made a late entry in the industry, but it certainly has done its homework and the latest tablets form the company reflects it very well.
The latest offering from Toshiba is a 7 in Toshiba Thrive tablet, which is a smaller version of the 10 in Thrive that was launched earlier. Just as its bigger sibling, the 7 inch LG Thrive has been developed around now-omnipresent Tegra 2 platform, rounding the specifications for the 7” Thrive are a 7 inch WXGA display screen having native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, five and two MP cameras
back and front respectively, Android 3.2, a non-detachable 15 Wh battery, an LED flash and your option of 32GB or 16GB of onboard NAND battery. The ports for the tablet are a lot more scrimpy than the initial one, with only micro-HDMI, microSD and mini-USB.

The screen of the 7 inch Toshiba Tablet is also rather interesting, because this is the only 7 inch device having a complete WXGA resolution on tap. Certainly, the straight competitor Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 inch also boasts a WXGA screen, but it’s a distinction which at present is enjoyed only by these two handsets.
The form factor for the newly launched 7 in Thrive is way more competitive than the orginal Thrive with the device having thickness of around 0.47 inch and a weighing well under 0.88lbs (400g). In comparison to it the 7 inch Acer Iconia A100 tab measures 0.52 inch (13.1 mm) thick and weighs 1.04lbs (470g), whilst the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 inch looks straight downright anorexic measuring 0.31 inch (7.89mm) and 0.74lbs (335g). The biggest problem that we had with the original Thrive was the utter size of the device, and we are more than happy to see that the 7 inch Thrive has slimmed out significantly.
The new 7” Toshiba Thrive still has a lot of its previous design cues, for example, the textured rubber-covered rear end and chrome webcam surrounding. The good thing here is that this time the rear cover of the device doesn’t comes off, which is the primary reason why the battery isn’t detachable just as we thought on the 10 inch tablet. The Thrive only comes in black color, which is a tad shame. Overall we are impressed with the Toshiba Thrive 7 inch and will say that it surely is one of the finest tablets in the 7 to 9 inch tablet segment.
